APWA Wisconsin Chapter and WisDOT Deliver On ....

The Wisconsin Chapter's Transportation Committee worked with several staff from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to prepare and deliver a WisDOT Local Program Project Process Development Process online workshop in June of 2020.

Roles and Responsibilities for WisDOT and Local Public Agencies have changed in the past few years to help create efficiencies and consistency in all regions across the state. This workshop highlighted those changes and overall process information with the goal of improving general understanding of the project development process and those steps in the process that are most critical to delivering a successful project.

Eleven presentations prepared in partnership with Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, and the American Public Works Association (APWA) Wisconsin Chapter define the critical components necessary for a successful design project. The goals, or learning objectives of the presentations are to inform participants so they are able to:

  • Identify roles and responsibilities of all parties involved in delivering a local projects through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Local Program, including those steps and approvals required of the local public agency sponsoring the project.
  • Understand the overall process and critical steps required to deliver a successful local road or bridge project with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
  • Access information on valuable resources available to support development of all stages in the project delivery process.
  • Anticipate the sequence and duration of critical steps in the project delivery process that define the overall local project schedule.

The eleven recorded video presentations listed below cover the key elements of the project development process and were available for viewing in advance of a live-stream Q/A session held on June 30, 2020. The Q/A session summarized key points for each topic and responded to viewer questions. A recording of this session is also available. The videos are available on the DOT's Local Program Procedures and Tools web page HERE.
