A beautiful sunny day greeted the drivers as they competed for the bragging right to say they are the best snowplow driver in the State of Wisconsin and to compete for the top 2 spots for an all-expense paid trip to compete in the Western Snow Plow Roadeo in Loveland, Colorado. The event again included two drivers from the State of Minnesota and 35 vendors and sponsors, who participated in an equipment show. A special thank you to Quality Truck Care Center for signing up as a major sponsor to the event.
This year’s obstacle driving course included six different obstacles: a sweeping curve with hazards; a round-about; an outside curve; slalom; stop/backup and turn and start/stop line. The slalom and round-about elements contributed to an extremely challenging and stressful course.
The day’s activities also included a 25-question written test provided by Ben Jordan, Program Director for the College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin, and a disabled vehicle inspection event sponsored by Caspers Truck Equipment that stressed the importance of a thorough pre-trip visual inspection of the plow truck before operation.
A big-thank you to the 32 members of the Fleet Services Committee, including committee chair Nathan Wachtendonk, Fleet Manager for the City of Green Bay, who planned and coordinated the day’s events. Also, thank you to James Schmitt, Mayor for the City of Green Bay and Steven Grenier, Director of Public Works for the City of Green Bay, who hosted the event.
The National APWA Winter Maintenance Supervisor Certificate training included 73 attendees and six speakers talking about the newest in equipment, planning and policy, use of chemicals, snow and ice control, and extreme weather events. A special thank you to our speakers including Ben Hershey, John Klostermann, Dave Mcdermott, Diana Clonch and Jeff Tews.
Mechanic training was attended by 28 participants and 2 presenters. Special thank you to David Voss and Steve Peterson from Allison Transmissions who presented on troubleshooting and repairs of Allison Transmissions.
Finally, thank you to the Green Bay Packers organization, Stadium View Bar and Grille, Tundra Lodge and all the vendors, sponsors, and judges who participated, graded, and exhibited equipment during the day’s event.
And the Winners are:
